It fell to Jane Mayer and Jill Abramson
to rewrite the history of the Clarence Thomas-Anita Hill
conspiracy. Ms. Hill, you'll remember, was the Joe Wilson of her
time, a useful contrivance in the Democrat's war against presidents not
of their choosing.
Mayer's past history was the second thing I thought of when I followed a Drudge link to "WHATEVER IT TAKES - The politics of the man behind '24'" in the New Yorker magazine. The first thing was, "You people are so transparent it's a wonder your guts don't fall out."
By way of disclosure, I have never watched '24.'
(Why do I feel like an apology is required?) I certainly know a
lot about the show, given its success, and all that's been written and
talked about. I didn't watch my first X-Files
for 3-4 years either, then went on a binge, which is what will probably
happen here. When the media begins anything with "The politics of the man behind .., " I already know the answer.
Any television show where the United States wins its wars against the
evil bastards (based on real life evil bastards), and - OMFG! - is a
ratings success, calls for an explanation. I did not read the
piece, but let me guess. The man behind '24' loves his country,
and knows Rush Limbaugh. Am I right? Okay, I saw Limbo's
name mentioned., but you get the point.
Did we ever read articles questioning the politics of "Designing Women" producer Linda Bloodworth-Thomason, or "Murphy Brown" producer Diane English, who aired pro-Anita Hill episodes, influencing millions?¹
Or any of hundreds of left-leaners? No need to. They are assumed to be
''proper" in an entertainment world that views Bill Clinton as a great
President with a few minor flaws. It's Joe Stalin's "Give me
Hollywood and I'll rule the world," fantasy come true.

We've just recently gotten hooked on the show- working our way through the DVDs. Didn't want to jump on the bandwagon if it wasn't going to last long.
ReplyDeleteI read the article, they were so concerned about all the torture scenes on 24 and how bad it makes us look to the rest of the world. If bad guys see those scenes and are afraid that we will actually react to them that way- well I see that as a good thing.
Parts of it were interesting, talking about the guy's background and friendships with people like Rush. Other parts just came across as typical handwringing.

Do you want to design the uniforms?
ReplyDeleteuniforms?
ReplyDeleteThe Barn Brigade needs uniforms for when we are on televison and coronations and such. And in case we're captured, we want to go to at least as nice a place as Gitmo.
ReplyDeleteI've been a seamstress in the past ya know. Got paid for it and everything. From swimsuits to wedding gowns and curtains. heh, true. In fact, I made that bikini I wore in the photo big bro sent me. :)
ReplyDeleteTFV and me can design and shop the fabrics together. :D I don't even need a brigade nickname cuz I'm a civilian volunteer. !!!FOR THE TROOPS!!!!
P.S. Totally hooked on 24. It usually has liberal dialog from those types, but in the end, the Jack Bauers of America ALWAYS come out on top. Nice....
ReplyDeleteJuice,
ReplyDeleteI don't have a clue about how to design something so it's great that you do. Sewing is one of those things that my mom did/does really well so I never bothered to learn much other than straight seams- hehe!
I would love to defer to your expertise and just offer my opinion (which as you know I always have!)
I still think we should put you in charge of brigade morale-- your posts just always make a person feel better!

Okay, we have a uniform committee
