I
was doing some video work Monday when something went haywire. I
used Task Manager to recover, but since then I can't load my ShowBiz
program that I use to do all my video stuff. I've reloaded it,
disk cleaned, blah-blah-blah, and nothing. Paint Shop Pro is
squirelly, and there are other odd things. I'm going to have to
do a clean install I'm afraid, and I just dread it. The way these
things work with me is I'll just pull the gun out and fire it, with no
warning. If I disappear for a spell, that's why.
Hey Rodger, Did you try a system restore? You can't always do one but they can help
ReplyDeleteprograms - accessories - system tools - system restore
yes, system restore, everything.
ReplyDeleteRoge don't shoot please.
ReplyDeleteI didn't mean shoot the blog, I meant I will pull the switch to wipe my hard drive and reinstall every thing, and that will shut me down for a day or so.
ReplyDeleteRodger,I've had to do that a few times and I was happy to recently learn that I could use my Norton GHOST to solve this problem.I had never used it before so I didnt even know what it was. Here's what I found out.I make DVD's of my computer as it was on that certain day so that if it goes haywire I don't have to restore to clean slate OR do I have to use the HP restore back to like it was when I bought it, rather I can use the discs I made ,and restore my computer back to the day when it was exactly like I want it to be....Hope what I just said makes sense....After the set up that was on the computer when I got it,I downloaded various cleaners and checkers,NORTON,ADAWARE and also SP2 and IE7 etc. plus all those updates. Its a pain in the ass having to redo all that.No More!
ReplyDeleteI learned a long time ago that you NEVER need to do a clean reinstall. Call MSFT tech support, pay a few bucks and let the techs do their magic. What I also learned was XP was about $35/call (prolly 50 now) and XP Pro was about $200 a call (consider alternatives). But much better than a mop up of the hard drive.
ReplyDeleteGHOST is one of the programs El Jefe sent me. But do I want to copy my disk now? Uh-uh. I'll use it after the reinstall.
ReplyDeleteExactly right!...By the way.Don't know how many DVD discs you will need. Mine took 6 discs, but I don't have the stuff you do on computer.
