Democrat "Peacemakers"

The Peacemakers

The greatest gift our country can give the Cambodian people is not guns but peace. And the best way to accomplish that goal is by ending military aid now.
That quote from Sen Christopher Dodd, March 12, 1975, as the Dems were cutting all promised financial aid to the Cambodia and South Vietnam governments. The vacuum resulted in Pol Pot's killing fields.
Wait, there's more ... The Peacemakers

  1. My take on this is that the whole strategy of Islamic jihad is precisely the same as the Khmer Rouge's was back in the 70s: to inaugurate a New Dark Age where intellectual activity is restricted to Qur'anic studies, women are chattel, free enterprise is stifled, free speech is strangled, and free thought is stillborn.

The only differences between 1975 and now would be doctrine and geography: in 75 it was essentially a secular fiasco regionalized to a section of the Cochin Peninsula; today it would be radically religious and global.

  2. When I think of a peacemaker, I think of the Convair B-36 Peacemaker. Y'know, the first machine to deliver a big, big, really big punch.

Superb and concise I could not agree more. Wish I had said it.

  4. The B-36 was the first major weapon system to be fully deployed, and then retired, without ever being used in combat. Apprpriate, huh?
