Beware the "ear ticklers"

I lost RFD (the Farm Channel) with the switch to FiOS, and the MFCS who populate the rest of the cable spectrum were taking a toll on me. Last night I found EWTN, which is a distinctly Catholic channel, but I landed on it during the airing of a ''retreat priest'' sermon. Retreat priests are Retreat priests because they are talented speakers, and can engage an audience about theological questions most of us have.   I'm not selling this any more than I was selling cattle auctions, so take 'em or leave 'em. He did bring up a verse from St. Paul that I was unfamiliar with (I'm, sadly, unfamiliar with most verses, by anybody). I thought it was very applicable to the political laity. ''For the time will come when people will not tolerate sound doctrine, but, following their own desires, will surround themselves with teachers who tickle their ears. They will stop listening to the truth and will wander off to fables. As for you, be steady and self-possessed; put up with hardship, perform your work as an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.'' St. Paul I'll take that as a sign to continue my ministry here, and beat left wing ass with my jawbone.  Say Amen.
