Chuck Martel sent me this Domestic Disturbances New York Times column yesterday. Here's what I was thinking after I read it.
Since I adore Ann Coulter, I can hardly lay into Judith Warner for political incivility, can I? Yes, for two reasons.
- Read any Coulter column
, and you'll find reasons for every snap of the whip factually referenced . Miller's is pure, ad hominem
screed.
- Where Coulter's venomous attack columns are unique
amongst conservative writers, Miller is the rule in the world of angry
liberals, where ad hominem attack is snipe du jour.
All this makes for much hilarity, however. Snippets follow.

The Mirrored Ceiling
It
turns out there was something more nauseating than the nomination of
Sarah Palin as John McCain’s running mate this past week. It was the
tone of the acclaim that followed her acceptance speech.
“Drill, baby, drill,” clapped John Dickerson, marveling at Palin’s ability to speak and smile at the same time
as an indication of her unexpected depths and unsuspected strengths.
“It was clear Palin was having fun, and it’s hard to have fun if you’re
scared or a lightweight,” he wrote in Slate.

Palin sounded, at times, like she was speaking a foreign language as
she gave voice to the beautifully crafted words that had been prepared
for her on Wednesday night.
But that wasn’t held against her. Thanks to the level of general
esteem that greeted her ascent to the podium, it seems we’ve all got to
celebrate the fact that America’s Hottest Governor (Princess of the Fur
Rendezvous 1983, Miss Wasilla 1984) could speak at all.
Could there be a more thoroughgoing humiliation for America’s women?

We don't have to bury the Libtartds. They'll use their own shovel to dig their own hole, lie down in it, and cover themselves over.
ReplyDeleteI dunno. They've been shoveling an awful long time ...

ReplyDeleteFeminism is designed to give ugly women access to the mainstream of society.
She is proof that this is truly an axiom.
Everyday they provide me more examples of why I hate libs.

Rarely do things "bother" me. What bothered me was not this particular editorial. I have come to accept the fact that the editorial board of the NYT despises those of us living in the flyover states. What came as a surprise to me was the vehemence w/ which the mainstream, every-day, liberal true-believers hate us.
ReplyDeleteRead the comments to the editorial. This isn't the usual provincial sneering contempt from the self-styled cultural elites living in the Northeast Corridor. This is pure uncompromising fanaticism that has filtered down to take over the hearts and minds of average Democrats.
Granted, they aren't threatening to actually put our heads on a stick. But the underlying tone of the comments makes it clear they would if they could.
"Passionate hatred can give meaning and purpose to an empty life." -- Eric Hoffer.
Granted, they aren't threatening to actually put our heads on a stick.
ReplyDeleteMaybe because they know we have all the guns :-)
I think that's why they aren't trying to put our heads on a stick -- yet. They know we are the ones with the deer rifles.
ReplyDeleteThey may be ideological fanatics but they aren't stupid.
Judith Miller?
ReplyDeleteNope. Judith Warner.
ReplyDeleteMs. Warner and her sycophants write as ones who have had their little bubbles of liberal self-righteousness burst by a woman who lives all they claim to espouse.
ReplyDeleteThat, and they are scared shitless of her!
I want to know more about this Fur Rendezvous business. Are there any pictures?
