I
recall a large number of people arguing a few years ago that the
unmasking of Valerie Plame amounted to treason. I wonder if the
same people making that argument about the leak of her identity as a
CIA analyst (by Colin Powell aide Richard Armitage to the late Robert
Novak) will remain consistent in this case. After all, here we
have Americans exposing field agents at their homes, and not to a
journalist — but to the enemy. If Plame’s exposure was treason,
then this should be a hanging offense, no? [Hot Air]

And wrecking our economy for political gain during wartime is high treason, Frank. For that you don't get a drop, just a swing off a pick-up bed..

The 'plame affair' was otally politcal in nature. The prosecuting attorney knew from the get-go who was the leaker. He knew that the status of plame did not make the revelation of her status a crime of any sort, yet he proceeded to try to find someone to hang by their thumbs, and succeeded. Once.
ReplyDeleteFriken Iraq *had* the yellowcake old pea-brain Joe couldn't find and claimed they didn't. But, he also claimed they did. I don't understand how it is possible to hold to contrary views in my head at one time. But, I am not a looney liberal.

'zactly! Fitzgerald ought to have been disbarred for what he did to Libby, knowing full well that Armitage had dropped the name, along with perjurer Joe Wilson.
ReplyDeleteI know anecdote does not equal data but...
ReplyDeleteI was at GITMO for a few weeks several years ago. My visit coincided with the suicides of several detainees. Word from some folks in the know was that the U.S.-based lawyers for the detainees encouraged the suicides as a means of drumming up support for their cause.
Take that for what it's worth, but it fits the narrative.
