“ Then there is Obama's decision to impose a six-month moratorium on deepwater oil drilling in the Gulf. This penalizes companies with better safety records than BP's and will result in many advanced drilling rigs being sent to offshore oil fields abroad.

The justification offered was an Interior Department report supposedly "peer reviewed" by "experts identified by the National Academy of Engineering." But it turned out the drafts the experts saw didn't include any recommendation for a moratorium. Eight of the cited experts have said they oppose the moratorium as more economically devastating than the oil spill and "counterproductive" to safety.

The Wall Street Journal addressed the same subject [Crude Politics], and arrived at the same conclusion.

“ In a scathing document, eight of the "experts" the Administration listed in its report said their names had been "used" to "justify" a "political decision." The draft they reviewed had not included a six-month drilling moratorium. The Administration added that provision only after it had secured sign-off. In their document, the eight forcefully rejected a moratorium, which they argued could prove more economically devastating than the oil spill itself and "counterproductive" to "safety."

    My volcanic scale rant on this subject posted at SondraK's porch:
    Comparing engineering ethics vs Uhbamanites' ethics would be like comparing ethics and a perfect vacuum.
    That cocksucking Browner bitchcunt asked for an engineering opinion, got it, then used those engineers’ good names and reputations without their knowledge or permission to lend credence to her bullshit political decision, which had nothing to do with the content of their written expert opinions.
    Those engineers, much like a physician, spent years in school and decades at work polishing their craft and building a reputation for good judgement, expertise and integrity in order to make life better. They provide advice that can make or lose millions of dollars, save or take lives, keep a company in business or put one out of business if they err.
    She abused them and their professional reputations, and I hope to hell some sharp shyster sees a big payday and sues the living shit out of Browner.
    Meanwhile, if she were truly of the faith of Gaia, why isn’t she sweating her stinky lying ass off in an un-air conditioned office and walking to work? Hmmm?
    I hope to fucking hell some roughneck throws that lying cunt off a rig when she visits. That will be a fine day.
    Another thing. As part of engineering ethics, to the best of my knowledge, there has never been an engineers’ union.
    I think we should organize one just to shut down crap like this sham.
    Wanna see a bunch of stuff grind to a halt? Let all the engineers quit for a while. If SEIU strikes, I can bus my own table or cook my own meal or mop my own floor or carry my own bags. I wanna see Andy Stern’s assholes or Uhbama build a bridge, make a jet engine more efficient and powerful, design a cell phone or plug the damn hole.
