I'm
comforted when people with the stature of Thomas Sowell find the
analogy between Hitler and Obama too compelling to ignore (take that
Mike Godwin!). Or, who will recognize that it is possible for any government to become so tyrannical, that forceful intervention is the best we can hope for. This Investors Business Daily column, Slippery Slope, is his most recent, and urgent.

When
Adolf Hitler was building up the Nazi movement in the 1920s, leading up
to his taking power in the 1930s, he deliberately sought to activate
people who did not normally pay much attention to politics.
Such people were a valuable addition to his political base, since they
were particularly susceptible to Hitler's rhetoric and had far less
basis for questioning his assumptions or his conclusions.
"Useful idiots" was the term supposedly coined by V.I. Lenin to
describe similarly unthinking supporters of his dictatorship in the
Soviet Union.
Put differently, a democracy needs informed citizens if it is to thrive, or ultimately even survive.
In our times, American democracy is being dismantled, piece by piece,
before our very eyes by the current administration in Washington, and
few people seem to be concerned about it.
The president's poll numbers are going down because increasing numbers
of people disagree with particular policies of his, but the damage
being done to the fundamental structure of this nation goes far beyond
particular counterproductive policies.
Just where in the Constitution of the United States does it say that a
president has the authority to extract vast sums of money from a
private enterprise and distribute it as he sees fit to whomever he
deems worthy of compensation? Nowhere. - continue Slippery Slope

When I see the worsening degeneracy in our politicians, our media,
our educators, and our intelligentsia, I can’t help wondering if the
day may yet come when the only thing that can save this country is a
military coup. - Don't get weak
Those who choose to live outside those laws, whether terrorists or
pirates, can be-- and have been-- shot on sight.- Discussing captured terrorists.

someone who has never had the responsibility for managing anything
could believe he could manage just about everything. [read on]
If we do not believe that the President is stupid, then what do we believe? - What Obama Says vs. What He Does
The stakes in this fall's elections go far beyond the fate of either
the Republican party or the Democratic party. The fate of America is on
the line. The Republicans need to understand that-- and to understand
that they are not simply "due" because of polls. -Are Republicans due?

ReplyDeleteI was listening to Randi Rhodes (of Air America fame, not the guitarist) before the election and she was comparing the economic crisis to pre-Hitler Germany, saying how the government and the economy was crashing and people are going to look for some kind of charismatic savior who will pull them out of the mess but will bring evil to the country like Hitler did to Germany.
ReplyDeleteYet she was a HUGE Obama supporter.
Ever since I discovered Thomas Sowell, he has been my favorite columnist. I think I link to more of his posts than any other on my blog. Between his lifetime experiences and his uncanny ability to write common sense, there is no better columnist alive today.
ReplyDeleteThat was pure awesome! I'm going to figure out how to put him at the TOP of my blogroll!
ReplyDeleteAnd don't forget fellow professor and friend Walter Williams. He doesn't pull any punches either.
