In a vacuum
OMG- Is that the Starlighters playing?
When's the last time you used a tube tester?
When's the last time you saw vacuum tube electronics for sale?
That's right. 4 Watts for $140.00 at Woot.
Whereas today I love the smell of cordite, bourbon and cigar smoke, I
would dearly love to relive vacuum tube smell, Canoe aftershhve, and
Kathy Shinner's perfume.
I was stationed in GTMO in 1988 and we still used RT-505B's, which is a tube powered, back carried radio. I came home on leave for my parents 25th anniversary with a pillow case full of tubes and headed to the Rexall drugstore.
Russian and Chinese tubes are still available for sale. I use the Russian ones in my Marshall half-stack and Ampeg bass amp. Tube (or valve if you're a Brit) amps are still being made. Tubes just sound better. Solid state has no soul. -- 1911Man
Was the catch phrase "Canoe Canoe?" or "Can You Canoe?" I could never figure that one out. BTW, 1911Man is right; Last I checked, according to true audiophiles, tubed mono and stereo amplifiers are still some of the most sought after and expensive units on the market today.
Tubes are the holy grail for guitarists. I currently have 3 all tube amps and 3 all tube preamps and a box full of 12AX7's, El34's etc. Sadly the most reliable supply is Sovtek. Tubes are also the holy grail for the extreme golden ears audiophiles.
Do they still make Canoe? It was my first aftershave, and given to me by the Mrs. Robinson of my youth.

ReplyDeleteI also believe that vinyl sounds better than a CD. There was dept to the music on a vinyl record.
ReplyDeleteI still wear Canoe. Got a couple bottles left behind when my father passed.
ReplyDeleteMy husband said he would have proposed earlier if I'd have used bourbon instead of perfume.
