The writer notes "...by being proudly progressive, forcing Republicans to tack to the left early and often.." What he overlooks is that while the progressives have been loud and unyielding, always scrounging another inch if they couldn't ge away with a mile, they are a minority and the heretofore silent majority isn't going to take that crap any more. Like he will have a second set of midterms to deal with?
I don't think he will be the Democrats' nominee in 2012.
They will want Hillary or someone else to come in at the last minute when they finally accept that their candidate doesn't have a remote chance of winning.
Just like they brought Lautenberg in to sub for Toricelli when the Torch became damaged goods.
