Ode to Hummers

When Hummers Leave
I hate this moment each September
As I've said before, if you'll  remember
A four month stay is much too hasty
When it takes so many to stuff my pastry

Boned Jello

The leaves change color and fall gradually; the temperature eases into cold. But  humming birds are gone in a flash. It appears ours left yesterday.  Sigh.

  1. One year I left the feeder out and one January New Mexico morning I spied a little guy taking his fill. All I can think is that he was living in a dryer vent to stay warm.

    Hummingbird pastries?

  2. I suppose pastry stuffed with stuffed hummingbird tongues would be haute cuisine.
Or is that just showing off.

  4. I hope they leave and take this endless string of 90 degree dry days with them.
