It doesn't matter whether suppressors can make a gun silent. It only matters that they are associated with criminal behavior, even if the association is utterly fictional. Generations of Hollywood movies have reinforced this belief.
A supressor reduces the sound of a subsonic round to the same sound a large book would make if dropped flat on a wooden floor. It's far from quiet, but it's not a sound someone would automatically link to a gun.
Muscles don't literally turn into fat but they do get smaller, and fat does accumulate when you eat the same amount and stop exercising, so it's a figurative statement that's still true.
