Helping your uncle

Today's fine lesson

Boned Jello
In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I've noticed that more and more people who send text messages and emails have long forgotten the "art" of capitalization.

Those of you who fall into this world, please take note of the statement below.  I cannot stress enough how grammar is very important to it.

"Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off his horse and helping your uncle jack off his horse."

Is everybody clear on this?

  3. I have pretty much taken to carrying a roll of duct tape with me at all times these days, with which to make a quick extra turn around my head to keep it from exploding, for those annoying times when I thank some youngster and they reply "no problem, man."

  6. Truss recommends that anyone putting an apostrophe in a possessive "its"-as in "the dog chewed it's bone"-should be struck by lightning and chopped to bits.

  7. While we're at it, let's slap silly the people that misuse quotation marks, as was done in the original post.

  8. Yeah, when writing the possessive of its, it's its.
So they're! Whoops, so their! I mean, so there!
    Bah! Damn, dirty homophones.

  9. And, equally annoying is the term "disrepect" as a verb and "no problem" has, apparently, replaced "you're welcome."

  10. I'm pretty sure that because of correct use of capitalization, Uncle Jack's horse will be really disappointed. - Skyhawker, Doug

  11. You don't actually do that by hand, do you?
I mean, they have devices for that sort of thing, right?

  12. Reminds me. People being interviewed on TV news. At the end, the interviewer says "Thank you," and the talking head says "Thank you," too!
    Arrrrgh!
The response is "You're welcome," not "Thank you," dangit!
    Drives me nuts.
