Would have been
considered pretty outrageous for public consumption , but Carole
Landis, Martha Raye, and Mitizi Mayfair sang SNAFU
in a short film made for the soldiers during World War 2.
From carolelandisonline.com
I learned that when she stopped
giving in to Darryl Zanuck's sexual demands her career suffered.
Although she was an established star Carole was given supporting roles
in movies like Orchestra Wives and Wintertime.
On July 4, 1948 Carole
had dinner with Rex Harrison. During the evening he ended their affair.
Carole was heartbroken and she committed suicide by taking an overdose
of Seconal.
According to commenters, "...
the skirt is the one she was found in . She was wearing a white
peasant blouse, though." .
That's what prolly what really drove her depression, having to wear the
same clothes that long. As for me, I always confuse Carol Landis with Carol
Lombard. Now I can see that Landis was prettier.

Heh! That was great (the musical number, not the suicide). I play it several times, but first time through I came within an RCH of spraying my keyboard with bourbon.....
ReplyDeleteAh, morning Bourbon is the best. Try mixing it with milk. I learned the technique from Adam Clayton Powell, Jr., except he used Scotch.
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant find!
ReplyDeleteI used to confuse Landis with Lombard as well. Lombard was a great actress, and died young in a plane crash promoting war bonds. While she was pretty, she wasn't in Landis's league.
ReplyDeleteClip was filmed for "Four Jills in a Jeep," but deemed to risque.
The clip is, I believe, an accurate recreation of the girl's USO show that Landis described in her book, and later movie by the same name, "Four Jills in a Jeep" Which explains its high quality. Surviving USO clips are short, and grainy.
