Democratic officials are cautiously
optimistic that the outlines of a potential compromise – a “Plan C” –
are emerging that could bridge the differences between plans pushed by
House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio and Senate Majority Leader Harry
Reid, D-Nev. The officials said President Obama has spent the past
couple of days quietly reaching out to leaders in both parties to try
and start hammering out the details, though it's clear this is still
only in the discussion phase and they are not close to a deal yet.
Senate Budget Chairman Kent Conrad, D-N.D., hinted at such a compromise
earlier...
My plan:
ReplyDeleteCongressional salary, benefits, and pensions will only be paid with surplus funds. If the budget is not balanced, no pay.
Seriously, though, this is easy. 1) Ask the general accounting office to determine this year's Federal revenue. 2) go back through the Congressional record to find the most recent budget below the revenue amount. 3) that becomes the budget for this year.
But they don't want solutions. they want the appearance of two parties working against each other to entertain and distract us while they pick our pockets and trick us into building our own prisons. In reality, the two political parties are simply two fellow travelers on the way to hell. One in a hurry, the other is taking his time.

Damn them, just damn them.
ReplyDelete75% of them are beneath contempt.
I received a letter today from our AWOL Senator Jim Webb (D, VA). He spent three hundred words or so trying to convince me how critical it was to raise the debt ceiling $2.4 trillion (so Obama won't have to talk about it any more before 2012 was not mentioned, of course) or our world will end and unexpectedly, women and children will be hardest hit.
The full court press is on folks.

Well it looks like Boneher is going to offer the tea party group more cuts and other goodies to get their votes. If Reid didn't like the original Boneher plan he'll really be faced with a dilema on the new one. As one wag put it, Reid kept the Senate up late and now they'll have even less time to come up with something before their own scare deadline hits. It looks like cuts in defense are off the table but there are more cuts and more guarantees for moves like a balanced budget law. More popcorn for the weekend and monday. Heh.
