Carry Me Back to Old Virginny ...

U.S. House Committee Advances National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Act

This week, the House Judiciary considered amendments to H.R. 822, the National Right-to-Carry Reciprocity Bill, and defeated all anti-gun amendments offered in an effort to weaken or gut the legislation.

The legislation is an important pro-gun reform that will provide for the recognition of carry permits in all states that issue permits. (For detailed information on the legislation,  ...  it amended the language so that visitors to states that have laws requiring licenses just for possession of a handgun, do not need a possession license, which is often unavailable to nonresidents.

The substitute also made clear that in states with local jurisdictions that restrict carrying or possession, visitors will not need to apply for special permits from those jurisdictions. [Full]

Opponents of the bill proposed a number of anti-gun amendments that sought to use misdemeanor convictions to disqualify people from the benefits of the bill.  All of these efforts were defeated.   USA UAS USA

  1. That seems too good to be true. Are you sure this is the U.S. Congress? If it is true, fat chance it'll get through the Senate.

  2. Since it probably won't go through, they needed to make it even better.

If ANYONE in a state can carry concealed ( including cops ), then your permit should be good.

  3. Do you really want that camel to get its nose under the tent? First step on an extremely slippery slope to Congress making all the rules about who can carry, how they can carry, and where they can carry.

As much as I'd like to see universal carry rights I am truely frightened by the thought that the Feds will be setting the rules. Far better we support the move to do away with BAFTEIEIO and all its rulings.

    stay safe.

  4. It will pass the House, but not the Senate. Even if it got by the Senate, it would be vetoed by Obama. This will have to wait for the next election. The argument that it interferes with the rights of states to set their own laws, and is a precedent for federal regulation where it doesn't have it now, is a good one. Like the immigration laws in Arizona and Alabama. However, I like this one, and can't wait for the next president to sign it into law.

  9. Your Highness, you need an Army model 1917 Cold DA revolver. I love mine and it looks like a cowboy gun and shoots a .45acp round.

  11. Tim, I had one that I bought at a gun show in California in the good old days for $200. I kick myself regularly for giving it to an ungrateful soul. All men should have one, or a Webley.

  12. Between the RINOs and the Dems it stands no chance in the Senate. Good practice for 2013, though.

Your insistence on perfect vs. good is not helpful.
