  3. Panetta comes from the communist left, so this is no surprise. There are things that can be cut in defense, but medical and retirement benefits aren't among them. We have a volunteer military, and these items are high on the incentive list for those who join. Cancel an aircraft carrier battle group, cancel some F-35s, but without medical and retirement benefits we will be going back to the draft.

  4. Good deal. WTSHTF these guys are going to be a little less willing to shoot me and a little more willing to shoot the "authorities".

  5. Skoonj, On Aug 1st, they deactivated CSG-7, so now we're down to nine.

    A deal is a deal.

  8. I believe CVN-76 (to undergo an upgrade) will switch CSG's with CVN-72. Plus, we will be down to 10 ships after the USS Enterprise retires in a 2013.

  10. They've already cut retirement benefits - since I've retired I've lost eye care and dental care, and gone to an insurance plan where I pay a premium for the insurance and a co-pay for covered services.
I understand we have to bite the bullet, but it would be nice to see a different set of teeth marks on it every now and again.

  11. I didn't know eye and dental was previously included. I have Tri-Care Prime, $40 per month, and $12 co-pay for Dr. visits. Unfortunately, I have recently picked up a disability retirement from Socialist Security, which means I have to take Medicare parts A&B, increasing my monthly payments.

  12. As long as we can decommission the USS Jimmy Carter, I'm all for it.
