scream-of-consciousness;
"If you're trying to change minds and influence people it's probably not a good idea to say that virtually all elected Democrats are liars, but what the hell."
To be - pardon the pun - "fair", I'm from D.C. and *that* particular station (as by its moniker, the "Watergate" Exxon station...) is by nature of its proximity to the Watergate usually about 50cents-$1/gallon more than elsewhere in D.C.. But yeah, impressive.
Just above West Palm Beach it's gone from $3.09 in August to $3.59 now.
But then we're in our snowbird season and they're trying to slam all the northern tourists for every penny. It usually goes up another 10-20cents by April to get them as they all head home every year.
The big mistake was letting the press announce "brace yourself for $5 gas by summer!" That just gives them license to steal as it sets an expectation of higher prices in everyone's minds....
Here in Chicago, the average I saw driving around town today was $3.79. It was about $.40 lower a few weeks ago. Regardless, until the Democrats are thrown out of office, there's no chance (other than a quick fix before the election to garner votes) that it will ever be near the 2008 cost ($1.99 her in Chicago).
I don't know, Tim. Some folks may have an expectation of higher prices as a result. I have an expectation of a change of command come January of 2013, as a result of this and several other campaign promises it turns out he was sincere about (who knew?).
I shot that photo yesterday. It's the closest gas station to The White House. The price was up from $4.99 for premium from last week.
A lot of the high price is due to a high rent factor owing to the location at Virginia Avenue and Rock Creek Parkway.
I paid $3.51 for regular in Arlington, Virginia on Sunday, and drove by a station in North West Washington today with regular at $3.73.
Watergate Exxon is routinely one of the highest priced stations in the area, but I like taking photos there because of the Washington Monument in the background and I don't have to get off of my bicycle.
Giant Food ( Wash metro area)has a program giving points that reduce your pump price at Shell gas stations. Just yesterday MoSup filled her tank with a 90¢/ gal discount. I got 70¢ last week.
I know that gas station. This time last year it was $5.29; it's about four and two thirds at the moment. The gas station is in D.C., near the Kennedy Center.
Yall are catching up. 6.91 per gallon (after $ conversion) here for Deeezel. My Missus drives a big 8 benz that won´t crank without 98 octane. Well over 1.55 euro per LITER! Buy my songs. NOW!
Here in Florida it's $3.49 for regular. Why the difference? Local taxes?
ReplyDeleteAlas that seems to be from last April:

ReplyDeleteWell, at least B-HO kept one campaign promise.

If O'Malley gets his wish of a 6% sales tax on gas, we may be driving to DC to fill up.

ReplyDeleteIn 2008, the price for an ounce of gold was $700.00, more or less.
ReplyDeleteAt the time of the election, gas was priced at $2.00 per gallon, more or less.
In three years, the prices of both have more than doubled. With a seven percent rate of growth, you expect a doubling to occur in 10 years.
Three.
