scream-of-consciousness;
"If you're trying to change minds and influence people it's probably not a good idea to say that virtually all elected Democrats are liars, but what the hell."
Not a bad flick, although it helps to have read the book... hard to cram 400 pages of Rand into a normal length movie. It remains to be seen whether the rest of it ever gets made.
Anon @4:02. That is true, BUT, there was so much that they left out that they didn't have too. When the John Galt line was running its maiden voyage, there were people lining the tracks cheering them on as a symbol of hope. They could have shown that the union workers all volunteered to be in the first run and they had to have a lottery to decide who goes. But to me, the most unforgivable change was to not have the Francisco D'Anconia money speech. That is the anchor, the hallmark of that book. It is possibly the most important part of it. And they left it out.
A portion of the D'Anconia speech (hat tip to Chris in NC for the reminder) that nails our current circumstance: "...Watch money. Money is the barometer of a society’s virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion–when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing–when you see that money is flowing to those who deal, not in goods, but in favors–when you see that men get richer by graft and by pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you–when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming a self-sacrifice–you may know that your society is doomed....
...Whenever destroyers appear among men, they start by destroying money, for money is men’s protection and the base of a moral existence." Lt. Col. Gen. Tailgunner dick
