Meet the Roberts electric car. Built in 1896, it gets a solid 40 miles to the charge — exactly the mileage Chevrolet advertises for the Volt, the highly touted $31,645 electric car General Motors CEO Dan Akerson called “not a step forward, but a leap forward.

  1. Even better: The enclosed Detroit Electric car got 80miles per charge and on one record-setting run got over 200.

  2. All of which is why the Founders, in their collective wisdom, did their damnedest to limit what gummint was allowed to do. They did their part; we've failed to enforce.
