"If you're trying to change minds and influence people it's probably not a good idea to say that virtually all elected Democrats are liars, but what the hell."
Maybe 10 seconds for the JLW III solution. In school systems run by TRKOF, I expect notice to be given in future math texts to The Single Match Conjecture and The JLW III Solution to it. Lt. Col. Gen. Tailgunner dick
I'll wager that some who claim to have solved it actually shifted a match, only to discover it didn't work, then claimed victory after finding a later solution; but the rule clearly said "shift one." (What? Of course imaginary shifts count. You can't make any physical shifts on the diagram, so it must mean imaginary shifts. Plus, they're imaginary matches. If you propose that only physical shifts count, then you must also have solved the problem with real matches.) Anon, the rule says "true equality," not "greater than."
8 + 3 - 11 = 0

1 minute too slow, Go Kitty!

9+3-4=8
ReplyDeleteTheIrishman
8 + 3 - 11 = 0
ReplyDeleteChrist.. took some staring time before I got it... Now I need a drink.
6+3-9=0
ReplyDeleteAlright I am a moron.. 6 + 3 - 9 = 0
ReplyDeleteNow I think I have to shoot myself
9 + 3 - 4 = 8
ReplyDeleteJLW III
----------------
ReplyDeletetook about 10 min
6+3 - 9 = 0
it was a lot easier once I put together a little of matrix of the possibilities. I did miss that the 4 could be 11
8 + 3 - 4 = 0
- 0 - = 9 - 8
6 = 5 + 11 6
I might have missed one or two
bullseye
--------------------------
6 + 3 - 9 = 0
ReplyDelete10 seconds
sorry Don= you moved two sticks
ReplyDeleteF
I moved one stick from the upper right verticle on the 8 and placed it on the top hoizontal of the 4.
ReplyDeleteThat is one stick.
A+
Move one stick in the 'equals' sign to make a 'greater than' sign
ReplyDeleteAha- I did the same as Kitty. S0 there's 2 answers. What a cheap exercise.
ReplyDeleteMaybe 10 seconds for the JLW III solution.

8-3-4 *whatever code meaning"not equal" * 0
ReplyDeleteBy moving the vertical line of the + and placing it diagonally over the =.

I was told there would be no math.
ReplyDeleteSir H the (evidently less than 120) Comet.
8 - 3 - 4 =/= 0
ReplyDeleteOr to put it in english, eight minus three minus four does not equal zero.
Three solutions in about 45 seconds:
ReplyDelete8+3-4>0
9+3-4=8
8+3-11=0
I liked the "not equal to" solution the most (missed that one, idiot Kim).
Of course, I just finished Remedial Algebra 0310 at school, so maybe I had an advantage.
