Yep, sort'a. I do like the Brit-snub point. Modern statist totalitarianisms (socialism, fascism, and progressivism) have common theoretical roots. I'd put the start of the presidential trend at Teddy Roosevelt and the rise of the Progressives (who became reviled, changing their movement's name to Liberals, thereby screwing-up political labels forever). Roosevelt 1.0 > Wilson > Roosevelt 2.0-2.4 > Johnson beta-1.0 > Carter > Clinton 1.0-2.0 > Obama 1.0-?.
