  3. MD is a basketball school. The Big will get a taste of what's in store for them when we play AT Northewestern on Nov. 27th. Of course, we will own Big 14 Lacrosse and Soccer.

  4. Okay, WWII, Stalin, Roosevelt, and Churchill sitting having a meeting together. Patton suggested we go to Moscow to crush the communist threat, and Roosevelt called him off. Patton died in a car wreck very shortly thereafter. Government started really growing under FDR, did it not? Perhaps the entire "Cold War" was "smoke and mirrors" to make the citizens of America more willing to accept the control of our lives by the government acceptable for safety's sake?

  7. For ensuring that Eastern Europe would be under the thumb of the Soviets, for seeding the US government with their spies and for breaking the Constitution; Roosevelt is a saint to the left.

  8. You need to go back at least to Lincoln to see the exponeltial expansion of governmental powers. That's when state power became forever subordinate to the federal.

  9. Yep, sort'a. I do like the Brit-snub point.
Modern statist totalitarianisms (socialism, fascism, and progressivism) have common theoretical roots.
I'd put the start of the presidential trend at Teddy Roosevelt and the rise of the Progressives (who became reviled, changing their movement's name to Liberals, thereby screwing-up political labels forever).
    Roosevelt 1.0 > Wilson > Roosevelt 2.0-2.4 > Johnson beta-1.0 > Carter > Clinton 1.0-2.0 > Obama 1.0-?.
