if we reversed the ranking and did a
Self-Reliance Index, Virginia,
Florida, and Georgia would score in the top 10. Nevada, arguably the
nation’s most libertarian state, is the state with the lowest number of
non-poor people signed up for welfare.
A few quick observations. Why is Vermont (by far)
the
state with the largest proportion of non-poor people signed up for
welfare programs? I have no idea, but maybe this explains why they
elect people like Bernie Sanders. But it’s not just Vermont. Four of
the top five states on the Moocher
Index are from the Northeast, as are
six of the top nine.

never heard of the (aptly named) Moocher Index. I found it

ReplyDeleteI got behind a truck last week owned by one of these companies that sells "gourmet" beef door-to-door, and in a box in the lower left of the logo it said "We accept EBT".
ReplyDeleteYour tax dollars at work.
wildbill
weird? vermont was the first state with constitutional carry.
ReplyDeletethat's weird.
Maine has many thousands of loggers put out of work by tree huggers and lots of Somalis invited by tree huggers. I'm surprised the number is so low.
ReplyDeleteEnd ALL public assistance programs immediately!!!1834 dswerh
ReplyDeleteWhen acquaintances hear that I'm from Vermont, they often ask, 'Helen, what do you miss most after moving to Florida?'
ReplyDeleteNot. One. Damned. Thing.
So how come Nevada keeps sending Harry Reid back to the Senate?
ReplyDeletejd
jd, that's simple. The unions. SEIU and the Culinary Workers own the vote. Theey maintain voting machines, and bus Democrats from the hotels to the polls. The workers are paid for their time away for that. And Reid promised to save the casinos from the big, bad online poker sites, so they support him, big time. With two esceptions: Steve Wynn and Sheldon Adelson.
