The Platters - Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, The Great Pretender, Only You, My Prayer, Twilight Time, etc...
Formal dance my senior year in high school - lights are low, mood is very romantic, slow dancing with that one special girl, arms wrapped around each other gazing into each others eyes while the singer is working his way through a pretty good version of the The Great Pretender, then that jerk changes the words and sings "Oh yes, I'm the great sex offender." And I started laughing.
Unfortunately the girl in my arms didn't hear what he sang.
To my knowledge the 5 Satins never recorded Twilight Time. I've never heard it, never heard of it, there is no reference to it in any of my books on Doo-Wop and popular music (including The Complete Book Of Doo-Wop), and there sre no hits on Google.
I'm with you Helly -best "make out" song of all time was Unchained Melody. For those of us who were blessed to live in that most wonderful time in America. (Wipes tear from cheek).

No. It's the 5 Satins who didn't record "Twilight Time". And it is The Platters who DID record "Twilight Time". In 1958 the Platters recording of "Twilight Time" was #1 on the Billboard Top 40 for 14 weeks.
It is a great recording by one of the greates groups of the era.
Some of the early Doo-Wop groups can be difficult to tell apart unless you learned their songs as a 14 year old rubbing bellies to their 45's with Mary Lou Whitesocks in her parents cellar Rec Room.
No. If we're going to go with R&B from the 50s, then "Twilight Time" by the 5 Satins gets the nod.

You're right. The Platters didn't do "Twilight Time" and also, The Five Satins' "In the Still of the Night" is the best of all time IMHO.
