Back in the 40s, I'd go out on a Saturday morning and mow a yard or two for some old lady who'd lost her husband or sons in the war.
A quarter was quite enough pay, 'cause a double-feature movie at the Lido cost a dime, and a box of popcorn was a nickel, and a bottle of Coke was a nickel. Then with the nickel you had left, you could go across the street after the movie was over and get a bag of day-old donuts from Leopold's bakery.
Those old movies -- Lash LaRue, The Cisco Kid, Johnnie Mac Brown, Roy Rogers, and all the rest --left a deep impression on me. So did the Three Stooges short subjects:
Larry: "What are we gonna do about this?"
Curly: "Let me think . . . ."
Moe: "Every time you think, you weaken the nation."
If that ain't Sharpton, Obama, and Holder, somebody please tell me what's more accurate.
Today, I went to the beach front with my kids. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old daughter and said "You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear." She put the shell to her ear and screamed. There was a hermit crab inside and it pinched her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is entirely off topic but I had to tell someone!
In a less polite society, a bulldozer would be covering the hole where the looters were piled.
