there's scant difference between ... today's cars and those of 2002.
ReplyDeleteWith few exceptions, the styles have been and still are sport shoe, jelly bean, ice shaver, shaped with the back of a flat shovel (Cadillac), or pieced together with odds and ends from the styling studio into pseudo Road Warrior (Hummer II,e.g.).
One of the real beauties, IMHO, was the retro Mustang, then they went and cut it all up with sharp edges and pseudo high tech. The real irritating thing to me is all the cheap silver plastic jewelry box trim on every edge and flat surface on the dash and steering wheel. I've been looking for a new car for some years now, and I cannot stand the Captain Video look of most of the imteriors. They look to me like they were done with a spray can of Krylon aluminum paint.
Watching the car ads, it seems like the car companies are marketing to the millennials, but most of them are in debt up to their eyeballs and living in Mom's basement. The 45-70 demographic probably has more discretionary spending power, but we seem to be ignored.

Clarkson is Top Gear.
ReplyDeleteBeing a putz is his stock in trade.
Perhaps they can create another show with real cars, as they have done from time to time.
I submit, for example, the kind of thing they did with my beloved TR-6, which I drive a couple of hours almost every day on the NC back roads smoking a seegar and listening to audio books over the exhaust note of 'er humming/barking old straight-six.
Clarkson makes Top Gear the show it is. Sure Hammond and May help out a lot, but it seems their actions revolve around Clarkson's. His politically incorrect attitude combined wit his sense of humor has made the show what it is. A fun show about cars. Many have tried to duplicate it and failed. Sorry Top Gear America, but you don't have the same class Clarkson and company has. Of course the Stig is a nice topping on the cake as well.
ReplyDeleteMaybe they can replace Clarkson & Co. with Gary Glitter and a number of Jimmy Savile's fellow pedophillic batterers and rename the show "Pop Queer."
ReplyDeleteOr, Russell Brand, since he seems to engage in BBC-approved behavior, much like Savile and friends.
Take a look at James May's twitter account.
ReplyDeleteBros before all else.
Even if they are knobs.
