scream-of-consciousness;
"If you're trying to change minds and influence people it's probably not a good idea to say that virtually all elected Democrats are liars, but what the hell."
The last time I went to the Ft. Lauderdale airshow, which happens at the beach, Kermit and cohorts flew a quarter mile off shore and made a half dozen passes in a B-25 and a Grumman Albatross. They dropped watermelons during their passes, each plane must have dropped at least 50. The watermelons would hit in a big red splash, was an absolute riot to watch. An hour later all the people watching while standing in the water would be covered in sticky watermelon yuck. Top notch entertainment. -Anymouse
A P-51C "Apache" razorback...(with side windows)...I rode back seat on a regular Mustang. What was striking was the nimbleness, as we were in the circuit in Van Nuys, of all places, and had to flit around about thirty Cessna 172...Still, WW II was won by the P-47, as one bullet could kill the P-51 while some Jugs made it home with 3,000 bullet holes in them...beside, it had the greatest engine ever built, the Pratt & Whitney R-2800, which is still operating on many water bombers as we speak, while the Allisons and the Rolls Royces have stopped turning for thirty years now!
Funny you say that Wabano, last time I visited "Fantasy of Flight" (Kermits digs) he had a room with a huge shelving unit. It was chock full of Allisons (P-40 Warhawk) he was saving them from the race boat crowd. -Anymouse
When your Allison quit on a boat, you just wait for a tow...on a plane, you soon have moss growing between your toes...Dont get me wrong, they are wonderful engines compared to the german, russian and japanese made crap...Germans, they never had one real good piston engine design and their Von Ohain and Franz turbines were equally awful...(Unable to carry more than thirty minutes of fuel)

ReplyDeleteWhat I love about this vid is that I can actually read the instruments.
ReplyDelete*phew* I need a smoke after that.
ReplyDeleteIt was like a training video. He was deliberately pointing things out at certain times.
Didn't you post an old WWII training film where they assembled one of these things from a crate?

Hey Wabo, is that why Spanish ME-109's had licensed Allisons? All those Messerschmits in The Battle of Britain were Allison powered. -Anymouse
