WHO'S
THERE?
That's where
police can seize your property and cash without first proving you
committed a crime; without a warrant and without arresting you, as long
as they suspect that your property is somehow tied to a crime.
Now, the Oklahoma Highway
Patrol has a device that also allows them to seize money in your bank
account or on prepaid cards.
Here's how it works.
If a trooper suspects you may have money tied to some type of crime,
the highway patrol can scan any cards you have and seize the
money. [cont] |

Notice, just like red light cameras, the provider of the equipment gets a cut of the action, but there is no due process. How is a red light camera going to appear in court for your cross examination? What are you going to do - hold traffic court on a street corner and question the camera?
ReplyDeleteLikewise, are you going to get to question the card spy machine? How long before a trial or hearing, then how long until you get your assets back, and will the government reimburse you for the cost of doing that and lost opportunity income?
Folks, we're well down the road to a police state where you're guilty until proven innocent, all in the name of expediency, and it's been going on, taking an inch at a time, for decades. The great leap forward in losing the Bill of Rights was the Patriot Act, IMHO. We're the frog in the pot of water, and government, especially the Feral government, has turned the heat on high.

ReplyDeleteAnother reason to embrace Apple Pay! The card number tied to the account is not revealed to the merchant. And a purchase generates a one-time use token number. I think Google Wallet is much the same.
