scream-of-consciousness;
"If you're trying to change minds and influence people it's probably not a good idea to say that virtually all elected Democrats are liars, but what the hell."
"Give them weapons and let them fight for their own country"…Hmmm, isn't that pretty much what we did for the Afghanis when they were fighting the Soviets? How'd that work out for us?
The State Dept. and CIA supported Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, head of Hesb-I-Islami, despite the pleas of other mujaheddin groups that Hekmatyar was a terrorist. He was given money and weapons, supposedly to fight the Soviets. Most of who he killed were anti-Soviet mujaheddin from other groups. Hekmatyar's group received more support from the US than any other group. I was kept informed about this through people in the US Afghan mujaheddin support groups.
By the way, many people mistake Hekmatyar and his group for Bin Laden. Hekmatyar is still a force for terror in Afghanistan, and the government is trying to come to a peace agreement with him.
>isn't that pretty much what we did for the Afghanis when they were fighting the Soviets? How'd that work out for us? They won. Post-war alliances change. The Soviets and Chinese wouldn't be around today if we hadn't bailed them out, and they fast became our biggest enemies. And, hey..."George"...us 50+ types can still kick your butt. Watch yourself, princess. -bravokilo
Sounds good except for one major point. We'd be training Muslims to kill and they would someday be trying to kill GI's. Muslims are rabid ideologues and would turn quickly against us.

ReplyDeleteWell, had those Afghans been refugees in the Bronx, pretty good.
