Recruit Training doesn't change much, If I remember correctly, the photos are taken during mess and maintenance week, after you come back from the rifle range. This would be about week six, out of 13. Plenty of time to get yourself jounced. -Anymouse
3d Bn. at Parris Island you were a "Recruit" until graduation. Call yourself anything but "This Recruit" and you met the ire of Drill Instructors. We didn't even get to iron the Eagle, Globe and Anchor on until just before graduation.
"Keeping my gun clean"? Is it too obvious to ask whatever happened to "This is my rifle, this is my gun"? (Those are the first lines of "The Rifleman's Creed", sometimes referred to as the Marine Corps Prayer.) We aren't Teufel Hunden, but we still know that! Dan Rather, OTOH, is a puke who probably doesn't even know "which end of the tube the round comes out of"!
We wonder if he also speaks of his "Drill Sergeant", or of "loading bullets into a clip"? Dan loves his sea stories!
Dan sure didn't understand that a flight physical is just a doctors appointment and if you are short, you don't need to go. Sure as fuck don't make you AWOL, not even close to UA. Didn't walk the walk, didn't talk the talk. Semper Fly -Anymouse
Anonymous, and if you miss the flight physical and get grounded, it's no big deal to the Ops Boss, as he is not inclined to waste flight hour funds on someone headed out the door.
