I AM NOT MAKING THIS UP
Canada’s largest school board says it is phasing out the word “chief” from senior staff’s job titles out of respect for Indigenous peoples.
I couldn't wait for my fellow sailors to call me "Chief."
From Wiktionary:
From Middle English, borrowed from Old French chief (“leader”), from Vulgar Latin *capum (from which also captain, chieftain), from Latin caput (“head”) (English cap (“head covering”)), from Proto-Indo-European *kauput- (English head).
They're showing their ignorance - do they suppose the hundred or so tribes of North America - all or any of them - used the English/Norman word "chief" in their hundred or so dialects and languages, or did they have their own unique appellation for their leaders? Lt. Col. Gen. Tailgunner dick

Man, this is just retarded. No indigenous people spoke English, much less used the word "Chief."
ReplyDeleteGood to learn that Indians back then used the word CHIEF!
ReplyDeleteOTOH it's possible that the board couldn't correctly spell Chief, so there's that.
