WINDOWS GAH!
Catharsis
ENOUGH
I
spent all weekend trying to get this damn HP pavilion computer to work
properly, and enough is enough. I just got a return authorization to
send it back and I’m going to replace it with a Window Seven box put
together for me Joe Wood III. Yes, Windows
Seven! I am kind of sad
because the Pavillion 24-bO16 64 bit box, with a humongous screen, was
fast and held so much promise. I won't go into details but ...
I had a similar problem & suspected DRM restrictions on Win10. I bought an older external DVD drive (USB) from eBay and once installed had no issues writing to DVD/RW discs. Good luck.
I did the same last year. Had a local computer guru build me a very capable box running Win7 updateable to Win10. I figger with the 58 million security updates Win7 will crash or bog down one day, but for the moment I have tranquility and no brain strains. OTOH, I bought my wife a new laptop with Win10 the only option, and spent about ten days cleaning out the bloatware and privacy spies to get it the way she wanted. I even found a way via some smart guy on the web to run the classic Win AP style Freecell/Solitaire/Minesweeper set of games in their original formats. The same games all uglyfied that Microscum now wants us to pay for via subscription. Fuggum.
Next step may have to be Linux, which I know nothing about. Ugh. At my age, I don't know if I could stand more brainstrain. Lt. Col. Gen. Tailgunner dick
Hm. Well, I build my own systems, so no problems. I'm suspecting your Pavilion may have had an AMD processor, which doesn't work well with the latest couple of Win 10 patches.
Hope it goes well for you. My brain was in crash mode itself for sometime. Now using a Surface Pro 4. So far so okay and decided the screen size is acceptable for the transporting. But everything today is loaded with adware and spyshite. Kids gave us Echo Plus for Christmas. She spends most of her time unplugged.
