Amazing
But, how do it know?

Not God. Schrodinger

Rodger you really do provide a one-stop shopping experience with your blog! Where else can a person learn physics, get great recipes, stay politically informed and have so much fun doing it!
You da man!

Good job Rodger! I wish videos like that were available when I took physics.

Ok smartass, you broke my brain, you get to fix it.

Oh, it's easy. Follow Ralph Gizzip's link above. Once I read that, I slapped myself on the forehead.

But Schrodinger had a thing against cats.

It gets better. You can set up your "which slit" sensor to store the information about which slit the electron went through. Then, after the electron has had enough time to hit the screen, but before looking at the screen, you choose whether to display the information, or erase it.

If you hit "erase" and then look at the screen, you see the interference pattern as if you had not detected which slit. If you hit "display" then look at the screen, you see no interference pattern, as if you had detected which slit.

This experiment has actually been done.

Don't take my word for it.
