Simpsons v South Park

Today's Culture War Report
The Simpsons go to the dark side?
Matt Groening's The Simpsons has been heeling hard to port lately.  My guess is it's in response to the popularity of South Park, which regularly makes fun of the Simpson characters, and is staunchly to the right, politically.  Nothing subtle about it either. The Simpsons is usually a good deal more nuanced, but over the years it's most delicious political jabs  have been at the expense of the democrats. However, this clip of Homer trying to vote for Obama, while a Diebold machine keeps switching it to McCain,  appeared on YouTube in early summer.  The quality led me to believe it was produced by the Groeneing studios, and when it appeared during a Simpsons episode prior to the election, that was confirmed.

Last week's delightful takedown of Apple (i Map) had, as a subplot, Bart befriending a nice little Muslim family. Homer is convinced they're terrorists, but of course is oh-so-wrong to be suspicious of people because of their religious beliefs, even Islamos.  The South Park clip above, one of many on the sublect of homicidal Islamos, stands in stark contrast.  A nice South Park episode would feature the boys throwing Lisa, the Simpsons lefty toon loon, off a cliff. A nice starrt to a full-fledged toon culture war.

The South Park creators are staunch Libertarians. Quote: "We hate Conservatives, but we really hate Liberals."

Works for me.

The way I looked at it, eventually, was that only someone with as little intelligence as Homer would vote for Obama.

Probably not what Groening was aiming for, but it made me smile.

Yeah, Matt's on the cutting edge, all right. He waited about five years to lambaste the new Star Wars trilogy, and now he's doing it for "Islamophobia" seven years after 9/11. Worse, he lifted the exact same plotline from another Fox Show, American Dad.

Get some fresh ideas and stop dressing like a slob, Groening.

I applied for the position of Colt's sales manager once. They'd still be around.
