Real hard choices here boss

acorn is everywhere

Hello Acorn

What a surprise!

This is footage of a small group of ACORN activists getting shooed away from the 9/12 DC rally at the Capitol. Apparently someone in the organization decided it'd be ironic to sell "Don't Tread On Me" flags to protesters with proceeds going to ACORN.

The plan didn't work out so well as one of the protesters, Tim Jones, overheard the police telling the ACORN folk to leave the rally. After circling a bit, the activists tried to continue their flag marketing, but Mr. Jones would not have it.

He followed them announcing to the crowd that they were ACORN provocateurs. Consequently, Tim was hit in the face, shoved and even his wife was rustled up a bit. But his efforts paid off as the Capitol Police eventually intervened and showed ACORN the way out.

The Reserve Militia

Subtitle A--General Military Law

PART I--ORGANIZATION AND GENERAL MILITARY POWERS

CHAPTER 13--THE MILITIA

Sec. 311. Militia: composition and classes

(a) The militia of the United States consists of all able-bodied
males at least 17 years of age and, except as provided in section 313 of
title 32, under 45 years of age who are, or who have made a declaration
of intention to become, citizens of the United States and of female
citizens of the United States who are members of the National Guard.
(b) The classes of the militia are--
(1) the organized militia, which consists of the National Guard
and the Naval Militia; and
(2) the unorganized militia, which consists of the members of the militia who are not members of the National Guard or the Naval Militia.
Thanks to Lexington Green , I was reminded of something that I have always considered to be the most important fact about 9/11, yet which is rarely mentioned in these terms:
The only part of the American national security establishment that successfully defended America on 9/11 was the portion of the reserve militia on board Flight 93, acting without orders, without hierarchy, without uniforms or weapons, by spontaneous organization and action.

Most people don’t even know they are part of the reserve militia.

But the genius of the Founders lives on in this legal category, which recognizes that the ultimate responsibility for the defense of the country rests on and in the people. The standing Army, and the organized militia (National Guard) are the main line of defense, but the people are an army in latent form, the ultimate defense force, as any democratic people should be and must be. Working Class

An Important Qualifier

Via Instapundit comes a major (albeit British) media report that the Tea Party protest in Washington turnout could be as high as two million.

As impressive as that no doubt upper-limit estimate is, I think that the raw number leaves out an important qualifier. To be  truly accurate, the report should say:

Two million people with jobs

Getting hundreds of thousands of kids, the professionally unemployed and government workers to show up isn’t that hard (especially if someone buys the bus tickets). Getting two million middle-class, middle-aged people with jobs, careers, children and businesses is way, way more impressive.

After two updates KOS get's a partly right
UPDATE @ - A few Kossacks who were actually around at the time that this screenshot was grabbed state that it is authentic. There is no time/date stamp on it, so it is unknown when it was actually photographed. Malkin herself is using this photo to claim that 2 million people attended today, and that therefore the Tea Party movement is not "fringe." The screenshot is her #1 piece of evidence for her claim.

"I OWN IT"
In his 60 Minutes interview to be aired tonight, President Obama apparently says, "I intend to be president for a while and once this bill passes, I own it....I'm the one who's going to be held responsible. So I have every incentive to get this right." - Bill Kristol

Samurai AG TFV and hubby Doc Ron - avid JMU fans.  Bereft.  Game in College Park against Maryland won't be televised (what with JMU only a puny Division 1AA team and all).   I invite them to join me in my box at ESPN360.com.  This is what I put up with all night.  Mooned and made fun of: :
  • Can 38-35 in OT really be called a win against lil ‘ole JMU??   9/12/2009 9:50 PM
  •  Scared of Scotty! Scared of Scotty!     9/12/2009 9:10 PM
  • Did You See That!!!     9/12/2009 8:16 PM
  • How bout them DUKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!    9/12/2009 8:12 PM

All night long - Reagan the Wonder dog hiding under the couch to escape the taunting.

I'll be frank: Maryland probably shouldn't have won this game (replay). If JMU had a decent kicker, or if they didn't commit 105 yards of penalties, or if they didn't - for some reason I am still yet to grasp - share phenomenal QB Drew Dudzik's time on the field with Justin Thorpe, James Madison probably wins the game. The Takeover

War Smoke Signals

Republican Senators Michael Enzi of Wyoming, Chuck Grassley of Iowa and Olympia Snowe from Maine, along with Democrats Conrad, Bingaman and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus comprise the so called "Gang of Six."  The WaTimes is reporting that they are ...
"... working to strengthen the citizenship requirements for obtaining health care coverage - a hot topic highlighted by Rep. Joe Wilson's "You lie!" outburst during President Obama's congressional address.

The group of three Republicans and three Democrats has been trying to find a bipartisan compromise for weeks, but hope that all six will sign on is dimming.

Mr. Baucus plans to release a formal health care overhaul proposal early next week, with or without Republican support.

We are starting to reach closure," he said, adding that Monday could be the Gang of Six's last meeting.

Speaking for myself, I'd rather cede Afghanistan and Iraq to al-Qaeda (which in true Viet Nam cut-and-run tradition Democrats are now demanding),  than allow Obamacare to become law.  Not because it would bankrupt us.  We're already bankrupt; most don't realize it yet.  Nope.  Because of the iron grip Obamacare, especially in tandem with "Cap & Tax" gives gummint.  While Cap and trade gives government dominion over every aspect of American business ventures and trumps the concept of "private property," - the cornerstone of freedom,  Obama Care would cede control over our personal lives.  Here, off the top of my head are actions the Obamacare Commission could take under the guise of health umbrella.  Outlaw or tax out of existence as a health menace:
  • guns and ammo, any food product, any automobile, alcohol, toys, appliances, tools, building materials, cell phones, clothing items ...Hell, lets make this simple.  Look around the room you're in and count the items against which some nut group isn't already demanding action against.  Regulatory agencies don't follow law, they make it with the stroke of a pen pushed by any GS-5 clerk.
Consider.  During the Clinton horror FDA Commissioner David Kessler, a pissant of the first rank, attempted to classify tobacco as a drug for the purpose of outlawing it by fiat.  A few of us not employed by the media or Ted Kennedy saw a parallel with alcohol, and asked where Kessler thought he had the power to do that without amending the Constitution,  as required by Volstead?   It went away. Took Obamunists just six months to do the deed and put  the tobacco industry under the regulation of the Food and Drug Administration.  See the drift?

If Obamacare is passed in any form, it's tantamount to throwing acid in someone's face.  The damage can never be undone.  Ever. We can't kill everyone that needs killing as it is, so this has to be stopped before the list contains everyone but you and me -- hiding in some mountain retreat.

ASIDE:  While I was looking for Kessler in the attic, I found DOG BITES MAN  - the very first political post I ever made - on the  Washington Post BB,  7-10-96, which was moderated by Howard Kurtz.  We didn't get along.  Shoulda quit while I was ahead..
