I believe "glory hole" had a different meaning prior to the sexual one that co-opted it. If I recall correctly, it was a term from the gold rush days referring to a successful gold mine. It makes sense that San Francisco, being part of gold rush country, is where the new use of the term started. I'm sure the business and people in its area know the original meaning.
Hmmm. I'm guessing some people don't know what a glory hole actually is.
