WWII is over . I
have great respect for the Japanese ability to make consumer products I
must have, and for making me ROR at their cultural
idiosyncrasies. The good news about this blast is,
according to the text, the metal reactor container inside was not
damaged, and radiation levels around the plant had fallen after the
explosion.
From a selfish pov, however, this will pretty much stop any attempt on
our part to overcome the Three Mile Island cultural hysteria, and start
building nuclear power plants in the USofA. The antis will be
frothing at the mouth. So, no oil production+no nuke power =
third world nation.
Aside: I renew my request that
congress make clear that if San Francisco falls into the ocean,
congressmen whose congressional districts no longer exist will be
immediately removed.

My Lady Friends' family in Japan can not be reached . They were not near the nuke plant though . She's still trying to get through . I was considering putting a contract on a home not far from Calvert Cliffs , this is causing me to re consider though . SMIBSID
ReplyDeleteThe thing about nuclear material is that it occurs in nature and we merely concentrate it before using it. We live in a closed system with respect to matter. One method of disposing of any such material that is not suitable for recyclabling would be to disperse it. Here is a fantasy method of disposal: grind it up, encapsulate it in lead and then in a low reactive plastic and spread these at an oceanic subduction zone in hopes that they are carried back into the Earth's magma. Worse comes to worse, we end up with Godzilla, hopefully this time without the added horror of Matthew Broderick.

SMIBSID, my son had friends gone missing after the Indonesian tsunami - couldn't contact them for days. They were alright however; I hope that's the case here.

Latest news is that the containment dome is still intact.
ReplyDeleteNHK is saying that the dust plume was from the concrete plant exterior collapsing in one of the Richter scale 6 aftershocks that are still hitting them today.
For irony the Japanese, the Chinese, and some companies in the US have been promoting various versions of fail safe mini-reactors

The Earth's axis shifted 10 inches, affecting its rotation. This requires me to set my clocks ahead 1 hour tonight. Rodg, when you're in charge, can you please please shift this shift to say Monday morning, 9 am? Make it be 10?

Can we have nice safe cheap coal-fired electricity now?
ReplyDeleteHahaha, just kidding.
No you weren't, Helly. And I approve.
ReplyDeleteI want coal fired, thorium and uranium/plutonium breeder powerplants.
And if that isn't enough, biodiesel plants powered by rendered dead hippie.
I want electricity that is too cheap to meter.
