What I
See
Born in the USA.
So was Barbara Streisand
There are things in life, cultural things, that I never really
understood. Georgie Jessel?
There was a time in the 60's when he was on every variety show
imaginable, where the likes of Dean Martin and Bob Hope would howl at
his every utterance. WTF?
And "The Most Trusted Man in America."
WTF? Who decided that? Has anyone ever pinned down the
first time someone used that Walter Cronkite appellation? And Why?
And the Dallas Cowboys—"America's Team." WTF?
Who said? If there was ever an America's NFL team, it was
Lombardi's Green Bay Packers. Dallas?
Bruce Springstein—"The Boss." WTF? See
Cronkite. And
maybe it's just me, but, STG, Dion Dimucci, Chuck Berry, Jerry Butler
and even Percy Sledge delivered more memorable music than this
guy.
Stab me in the liver, Sheesh.

Who died and made him Boss, anyway?
ReplyDeleteI just got done getting my inner geek on: Felix Baumgardner jumping from 24 miles up. Absolutely fascinating: Combo Evel Knievel, Apollo launches, and sweet beautiful science. Good for him!!! He's Austrian, but this was still
ReplyDeleteUSA!!! UAS!!! USA!!!
Georgie Jessel was a talented singer and performer. He was up for the title role in The Jazz Singer, the first talkie. The rest of his career was spent trying to prove that the wrong guy, Al Jolson, was chosen.
ReplyDeleteOnce The Boss, now The Loss ...
ReplyDeleteHe's the boss of banality. To progressives, that's extraordinary.
ReplyDeleteTo his credit, he has written a few good songs well covered by others, the guy puts on a high energy concert, but he has only a three note range and can't carry a tune in a bucket. Why anybody would listen to him, politically or musically, is beyond me.
ReplyDeleteLt. Col. Gen. Tailgunner dick
I saw him live right after the Born in the USA album came out and I gotta say, it was some fine Rock and Roll.
ReplyDeleteSince then, blah
MM
In my view, he's wayyyy overrated as a performer, and someone I spoke with who met him once said he had seriously awful B.O.
ReplyDeleteAnd, he's a dope.
I wish he were not from New Jersey.
Jim, at least Frankie Valli is from New Jersey too.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first heard him, I thought he was ripping-off Jackson Browne.
ReplyDeleteI still do.
Two word explanation for all of the above: Excellent Publicist/Agent

I don't think sending Springsteen to Ohio will help.
ReplyDeleteI lived there when he was at his height and he just wasn't that big a star there.
"shut up and sing." Then go away, we don't care what you think.
ReplyDeleteRAK
If Springsteen is The Boss then take this job and shove it.
