scream-of-consciousness;
"If you're trying to change minds and influence people it's probably not a good idea to say that virtually all elected Democrats are liars, but what the hell."
Victoria's Secret has apologized for putting a
Native American-style headdress on a model for its annual fashion show,
after the outfit was criticized as a display of ignorance toward tribal
culture and history.
(Rollover)
Senator elect, and famous American Indian Elizabeth Warren
also decried the use of red savage costumery by the white man.
You are wondering wh we don't have a sense of humor. The pretender that the Dems voted in in both 2008 and last week is a huge joke. But no one is laughing.
Here in Southern Md. we have several families of light skinned africans who have claimed for years that they are part Cherokee . Recently the real Cherokee tribe voted to kick the africans out , kinda fun to watch . It must really suck to be a minority kicked out by another group of minorities . One thing is certain they have a huge chip on their shoulder , and they smell blood in the water. They want to drive the stake into whiteys heart . I am friends with one on FB , and his political posts are ignorant , un-informed , and never ending . They too realize that we are at a tipping point . SMIBSID
I see two unattractive women - one used 'indian' to get a job, and the other must have used an indian costume to escape from a concentration camp. Don't know how she managed that with heels up to her knees. What's with all the celebrity bitches and models with the anorexic look, big jaw, no hips, bolt-ons and carp lips? We used to call them spinsters. Now they're 'beauties' and 'sex symbols'. Sorry. I don't want to get splinters from lovin' my woman. Anyhow, I'm worn out from Statists getting passes for the very things they use to hand Conservatives their asses. Lt. Col. Gen. Tailgunner dick
Native American were clan / tribal societies that, unlike Hollywood Indians, did not enjoy taking casualties. When they did, they often adopted likely captives into the tribe to replace lost relatives. For example, Quanah Parker, the last great Comanche war chief, was the son of a captive white woman who embraced the tribe and refused to return to her Texas relatives. Those African Americans from Maryland could have been descended from adoptive members of the tribe but the tribe would have some record of it.
Well there are a couple of other felines that were native to the South Western parts of the US that had spots. She needs to send that fur in for analysis. She can wait in my apartment while she scarfs down my skillet chili fries.
It is true that, if a captive was not adopted, their next best option was to be enslaved. But don't we want the descendents of slaves of non-Native Americans to identify with the USA? And eventually, I might add, vote on their personal ethos, not their racial one.
Sorry, Kristophr, but how does a 18th or 19th woman join a tribe voluntarily? Most were captured first, then adopted and then so identified with their new family and / or religion that they refused repatriation if later offered. This was the case of the early New England Unredeemed Captive, Eunice Williams and Cynthia Ann Parker, the Texican mother of Quanah.
I'm sure historians at the time felt that the reason these women wanted to stay was some kind of mental issue ... but no one wanted to see the elephant in the room: in some of those eastern tribes, the women were completely in charge.
The next "Cracker" joke I hear; I'm suing some-damn-body! Whatever happened to people having a sense of freaking humor??

They should apologize.
ReplyDeleteMixing leopard skin with turquoise?!? Good grief, what were they thinking?
Hottest Indian I've ever seen. The Vic Secret one, not the rollover. :)

Scotiebill
Headdress? What headdress?
ReplyDeleteIsn't that cross dressing? One victim groups outrage is another victim groups victory.
ReplyDelete"Mixing leopard skin with turquoise?!?"
ReplyDeleteKinda like vodka and coke.

I am OFFENDED by that leopard print thong. Take it off! Take it off now!
ReplyDeleteI sentence her to wearing that outfit around my house for 5 years!

SMIBSID: They certainly weren't Cherokee.
ReplyDeleteThey were the slaves the Cherokee owned before Jackson illegally seized their plantations in the south.
It was all about casino money. If this group was upset about slavery, the last thing they should want is to be identified with their former masters.
so now "Homage" = "Outrage"
ReplyDeleteWe should just ignore and not mention them like they're embareassing relatives we keep locked in the attic?
That seems odd....

Freddie: Some of those "captives" weren't.
ReplyDeleteA lot of women who were considered "kidnapped" had joined those tribes voluntarily.
The Five Civilized Tribes were matriarchal, and they probably got a better deal there once they learned the language.

There were instances of some of those women running back after "rescue".
ReplyDeleteMost of this happened in the 17th and 18th Century, BTW.
Seriously ... treatment of women back then WAS pretty awful.
