When
it comes to picking a presidential candidate for 2016, the GOP elite
are having a hard time getting the grassroots to toe the establishment
line.
Top Republican strategist Karl Rove, for example, has repeatedly
praised Chris Christie, the Republican governor of New Jersey, as “a
strong potential candidate in 2016,” whom Democrats fear will win the
nomination.
And when other names gained popular attention, particularly attention
among the so-called tea-party crowd, the man known as the “architect”
was quick to criticize.
Rove, for example, blasted potential presidential hopeful Ted Cruz for
not playing ball with the GOP establishment, just as the Texas
senator’s name started to gain traction with Republican voters.
Rove similarly opened fire on Sen. Rand Paul, R-Tenn., for talking
about Monica Lewinsky and potential Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton
in the same breath.
And even if Christie has fallen from favor among the establishment,
other GOP insiders have floated names like former Florida Gov. Jeb
Bush, former vice presidential candidate Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin
and even the return of former presidential candidate and Massachusetts
Gov. Mitt Romney as possible nominees in 2016.
But now a poll on one of the Internet’s top websites, the Drudge
Report, reveals the ground troops just aren’t buying it.
With over 234,000 votes counted, Rove’s “strong potential candidate,”
Christie, was garnering less than five percent of the vote. Bush had
just over six percent. Ryan had less than four.
But despite fiery criticism from the GOP establishment, Texas Sen. Ted
Cruz was registering over 28 percent in the Drudge Report poll, while
Tennessee Sen. Rand Paul was leading the survey, with over 30 percent.
Paul’s 72,297 votes compared impressively to Christie’s 11,437

Rand Paul isn't exactly great when it comes to immigration.
ReplyDeleteWe'd be better off as a nation if Karl Rove would elope with Oprah Winfrey to the Sea of Tranquility and remain there until a cure is found for Acute Laryngoblastic Sarcoma.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't read too much into the CPAC vote, although it is a much better predictor than Karl [Romney landslide] Rove.
ReplyDeleteThey tend to bus in enthusiastic kids, many of them Paulistas left over from his Dad. I'd look at the Cruz vote as a more reliable predictor.
Besides, Sarahcuda gave a sly shout-out to Cruz with that Green Eggs & Ham rant.
Well if you are counting in WND for accuracy in information, someone should let them know Rand Paul is a Senator from Kentucky, not Tennessee...
ReplyDeleteDoes that tell you anything?
Walker? Cruz? Paul? Jindal? Other names are prominent also, among them Palin. She has been so kicked that I don't think she has an honest chance. The "see Russia from my front porch" crapola made her a laughingstock. Plus, she's a real, independent, strong WOMAN who actually has babies! The 'movement' can't have people stand up by their own, without the help of the 'movement'... they'd be out of biz.

"much better predictor than Karl [Romney landslide] Rove."
ReplyDeleteSee, here's where I disagree. Rove is a GOP scriptwriter and producer. In the end, it will be Rove's man who heads the ticket, just as it has been since 1988. Reagan was the last (maybe the first?) person to successfully overcome the machine, end even there he was saddled with GHWB as VP. When I come to power all elected Democrats will swing, along with 60-70% of all elected Republicans. And statures will be erected.
If WND is to be considered a source, they should check their information a bit better as Rand Paul is a Senator from Kentucky....
ReplyDeleteToo bad Palin was so distorted by the media. "Russia from my front porch" was made up by comics, but believed by LIVs. They still to this day think she said that, along with a treasure trove of other misinformation. The MSM destroyed her truly well.
Paul, Cruz, Walker, Jindal, any would be better than the 'Maverick' Senator from Arizona, lost in the desert and bawling for his momma...
Romney was a 'play by the rules' kind of guy, would have been an honest man in office, and surely could have done a lot better than Obungle. He did not allow the shark out that was needed to counter the gutter troops of the socialists...

Randal Howard "Rand" Paul (born January 7, 1963) is the junior United States Senator for Kentucky. He is a member of the Republican Party and the son of former U.S. Representative and presidential candidate Ron Paul of Texas.
ReplyDeleteNewark said that Rand Paul is not necessarily great on immigration.
ReplyDeleteMaybe. Maybe not. But he is a whole hell of a lot better than the lying MFIC that is occupying the White House now.
Scottiebill
When it comes to legalizing 40 million Mexicans (low estimate with family)they are all MFIC whatever that is. His position on Mexicans is a deal breaker. Nothing else matters as much.
ReplyDeleteAs a Tennesseean, I wish Rand Paul was a Tn US Senator.
