In
the Fall of 1980 my friend Tom and me took a sail on the Bay—it was
cold, but we were young and hearty—and discussed the upcoming
election. I was hardcore Reagan, Tom a Carter man. Even
though polls
showed an even race, or even favoring Jummy, I remember saying that
there was no fkg
There’s
a new Bloomberg national poll out, and if you ever had any illusions
about the well-documented evidence that Donald Trump would be a
Hindenburg-sized disaster as a general election candidate against
Hillary Clinton, this should lay those doubts to rest. Trump trails
Hillary by 18 points, 54-36, and the news gets worse from there. [RED STATE]
way Carter could be re-elected after his miserable
performance. We bet something, probably beers, and in a few short
days
I collected. Two words: Silent
Majority.
It took me a long time to realize that news media had sufficiently
concentrated forces to changed the landscape. I lost my bet to
Tom in
1992 when Clinton swept into office with less then 50% of the vote,
thanks also to Ross fkg Perot. I thought it was an anomaly, but it was
me
who got fluked.
Today it seems impossible that Hillary Clinton could be elected
President. I don't have to go through the litany. Red
State,
the erstwhile sensible conservative blog is just one of the
anti-Trump
GOP handmaidens predicting disaster if the GOP doesn't nominate
ABT.
But I'm thinking déjà vu all over again. Silent
Majority. If I'm wrong, then I shall have been lucky enough to
have lived a great life in the best nation heretofore known on earth. Fkm. |

The more Libs cry the more they fear and set out to destroy a candidate and deceive the public. Wait, did I type Libs? Insert the comfy GOP bastids in that spot as well.
ReplyDeleteEarly polling (Wikipedia) in Feb/Mar 1980 had Carter ahead. Reagan 31% to Carter at 60% (pre John Anderson). Not saying Trump is a Reagan, just saying polls this early often don't mean much.

I think the tea party activists are just the tip of the iceberg of the silent majority I saw in my youth.
ReplyDeleteAs Rush-baby has stated on numerous occasions concerning the Left: 'They will show us who they fear'. I believe the polling at this point is to provide ammo both for the Demos and the GOP. Oh, and the Pundits, can't leave them out. But they can't cover up the voter turnout, so that's what's guiding my views at this point.
ReplyDeleteAnd, BTW, I still remember THAT election day in 1980. Carter had gotten the internal polling and knew he had lost. His VOICE was the other thing he lost that day; true symbolism, if you ask me...
