If - and this is where it gets murky - that final presentation for redemption produces a 20% reduction in "funds redeeemable" then everyone in the chain will reduce their payout upon presentation by 20% in anticipation of that. The murkiness comes from having to pry that 20% from the clutches of the USPS et al wherever the original dollars are stored. Whatever the process turns out to be I'd think that instantly devaluing a USPS money order returned from outside the U.S. by 20% would pretty much shut down that method of funds shipment. Meaning, other methods would pop up...Stanleynoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-15290406.post-26051413188323608612017-01-28T20:53:15.030-05:002017-01-28T20:53:15.030-05:00^ Fred, those money orders are going to momma or s...^ Fred, those money orders are going to momma or sister in Mexico. Historically, trade wars become a lose-lose game very quickly.

Mexico receives about $24 billion/yr. in remittances from Mexicans living in the USA. There has been talk of Trump taxing this. However, if what I see at the local post office applies universally, the Mexicans and other Central Americans are buying postal money orders and mailing them home. Unless Trump can require proof of citizenship to buy a postal money order, it will be difficult to stop or tax that cash flow.
Now, if Trump deports half of them, there's the $12 billion for the wall out of Mexico's GDP and in addition, a big savings in welfare costs for Fed, state and local governments and hospitals.
Mexico can be made to pay for the wall and not even write a check.
Lt.
