For those unfamiliar with college football, "BCS" stands for Bowl Championship Series, "a
selection system designed to give the top two teams in the NCAA
Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) an opportunity to compete in a
'national championship game [Wiki]'"
as detrmined by computer. Of course, whole bunches of people
always disagree with the selections, Florida v. Oklahoma this year,
which results in slap-down parodies lke this, from Ron.

BCS DECLARES GERMANY WINNER OF WORLD WAR II US Ranked 4th
After determining the Big-12 championship game participants the BCS
computers were put to work on other major contests and today the BCS
declared Germany to be the winner of World War II.
"Germany put together an incredible number of victories beginning with
the annexation of Austria and the Sudetenland and continuing on into
conference play with defeats of Poland, France, Norway, Sweden,
Denmark, Belgium and the Netherlands. Their only losses came against
the US and Russia; however considering their entire body of
work--including an incredibly tough Strength of Schedule--our computers
deemed them worthy of the #1 ranking."

Nobody knows how the New York Times
selects facts used to support any of their opinions, a.k.a. news, but
that BCS computer might be a better option. Consider this beauty,
where they back Barney Frank's farcical contention that Bush caused the
subprime meltdown. I might not agree with the BCS all the time,
but I never daydream about parking a truck full of fertilizer in front
of NCAA headquarters.

A minor quibble Rog, because certainly you know, that the computer rankings only account for a third of the BCS ranking. The other two thirds are coaches, half of whom are idiots, and sports writers, all of whom are idiots.

As an ex-Marine, I'm sure you're aware that quibbling is a punishable offense.
ReplyDeleteRodger, Thats a rule only followed by the Marine Corp. That's why it is and always will be America's premier fighting force.
