As we learned, laying a computer on its side, and running the CD drive can have negative consequences. But not what you'd think. Fortunately, the good people at HP sent me a replacement, on condition that I return the broken device. Guess
what fell out of its bowels when I removed it? That's right, the
mini installation CD with a chunk torn off (left in photo).Ha ha. Stupid damned mini-disc.

Many wintel severs, HP included, have the CD/DVD drives mounted in the same orientation you get if you lie a small tower PC on it's side. It shouldn't bother any full sized CD.
ReplyDeleteYeah, but gravity let this mini cd fall into the works, There was a grinding noise.
ReplyDeleteAnd that why mini cd's never caught on.

I've received 3-4 of them, and never could figure out their justification. Can't see how they're cheaper, given the low production scale. Please let's hope it's not another misguided Green effort to save the planet. Grrr.
ReplyDeleteBah!
ReplyDeleteA Mac laptop will work even after being thrown out of an airplane.

Years ago some friends in the video business had business card shaped mini-cds. They placed copies of their video work on the CD and would hand them out to perspective clients.
