Kill Silverlight

Trouble watching videos?
Uninstalling Microsoft's piece of crap
"Silverlight" will probably clear that right up.

Thanks to JMcD for the tip. Siverlight is  Microsoft's interface for watching stuff like NetFlix movies on line. Its only function appears to be keeping you from copying any portion of the content.   It will reinstall when you need it again.

If you're having trouble with Firefox, but like your add-ons, etc., get the IE Tab add-on.  It lets you view content using the IE interface in Firefox.

  1. Quit using IE and Mozilla a few months ago. Went to Opera.

Have had two major updates since, but it's a pretty good program. No latency noticed (since last update). It is a resource hog at times, although the program itself doesn't take up all that much space. But name any app from MS that isn't a resource hog.

  6. I wonder how long she would have to wait around for work if she was mixed in with a bunch of beaners in front of Home Depot.

  11. Funny, I use only IE. In all the lab tests I've performed, it is the most secure browser. Just last week I had to remove Firefox due to problems it caused, and given the security warnings published within the last 2 days, I do not intend to reinstall it anytime soon. However, the issue here is Silverlight. I have no issues, none, watching movies, or creating them, or downloading them from YouTube or where ever. I would suspect that the actual issue is with BHO's or Plugins or other browser add-ins on the problem machines. It helps, I suspect, that I build and load software myself, and know what internet sites to say no to, what 3rd-party tools to not use, and I also keep my MS Updates current. Of course, I'm just a computer and network security engineer; what do I know?

  12. Thanks CarlS - We love having computer geeks make house calls. I have no doubt that you're correct, but for us live-a-days, when something like this happens, we just want a fix without spending 5 hours reading FAQS, uninstalling stuff one at a time, etc. In this instance getting rid of Silverlight worked, and I don't miss having it (so far). Like MoSup said when I was teaching her to drive, "Don't tell me about pistons; show me where the key goes."
