Since 1991, the aerospace industry has divided its political
contributions equally between Democrats and Republicans. In
the same period, however, Loral and Hughes tilted
toward the Democratic Party, giving $2.5 million to
Democratic candidates and causes and $1 million to the
Republicans.

officials say the contributions played no role in the
decisions to permit China to launch U.S. satellites.
