Mayor
Richard Daley today launched his final push in office for state and
federal gun-control measures and vowed to continue those efforts "as a
private citizen as well."
He proposed four new state criminal laws aimed at reducing gun violence
and vowed to battle bills that would bar cities and villages from
enacting gun-control measures and allow citizens to carry concealed
weapons.
"We are ready for this fight," Daley said, after noting his long
history of anti-gun violence efforts during nearly 22 years in office. [Chicago

In the late '80s, I lived in Chicago, where every gun I owned was loaded all the time. I could sit in my living room and listen to gunfire every night. New Years and the 4th were reminiscent of a battalion force protective fire, and the coppers always shot at least one citizen with a weapon on his own back porch. Cops wouldn't respond to a "shots fired" call unless there was someone laying in the street. I doubt that it has changed for the better. BTW, I didn't live in a bad neighborhood.

ReplyDeleteThe hell you didn't! It may have been worse in other parts of Chicago but in most parts of America gunfire in the neighborhood isn't living in a good part of town.
Because of the Chicago Housing Authority's commitment to scattered site housing, no neighborhood was far from "the hood".

Around here, the sound of gunfire in the good neighborhoods means somebody dines on game tonight or there's one less bad guy.
(What? Well, yeah, either that, or there's artillery bein' used over at Ft Bragg.)

Nearly all of my neighbors are Amish , and they LOVE their guns , so I hear gunfire almost every day , and think nothing of it , but if I'm at my Lady friends ( just outside Baltimore) , and hear gunfire . I go to condition yellow ! Country folks and guns = No problem ! City Folks , and guns = BIG PROBLEM : ) smibsid
