Dr.
Ivar Giaever, a former professor with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute
and the 1973 winner of the Nobel Prize in physics, abruptly announced
his resignation Tuesday, Sept. 13, from the premier physics society in
disgust over its officially stated policy that "global warming is
occurring."

The official position of the American Physical
Society (APS) supports the theory that man's actions have inexorably
led to the warming of the planet, through increased emissions of carbon
dioxide.
Giaever does not agree -- and put it bluntly and succinctly in the
subject line of his email, reprinted at Climate Depot, a website
devoted to debunking the theory of man-made climate change. [Full]

"The same study showed that 69 percent of those polled believe it’s at least somewhat likely that some scientists have falsified research data in order to support their own theories and beliefs."
ReplyDeleteThe consensus is clear. Falsification of global warming is occurring. The evidence is incontrovertible. The debate is over.

This. is. science !
ReplyDeleteThe debate is not over.
Was it over when Copernicus overthrew the Earth-centrists?
Was it over when Einstein overthrew Newton?
Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor?
It's never over.
That points out the real question here, Doug: Is Global Warming a scientific problem or a religious one? It is never over for religious zealots, facts be damned.

Ya know, on this whole "Science is settled" thang? Some jamoke around 1910 was saying "why study physics? It's all Newtonian, there's nothing left to learn." Then along comes E=mc² and Schrödinger and Heisenberg and the rest of the 20th century.
ReplyDeleteNice equations, great predictors. But then they say, c, the speed of light, is fastest thing in the universe. I don't believe that. I can't prove them wrong of course, but keep your eyes on the quantum mechanics boyos.
I'd bet good money that within my lifetime that piece of settled science is going out the window.
Turing word: geniz. Exactly.
GrinfilledCelt,
ReplyDeleteSpot on.
Sure looks like they're treatin' skeptics, deniers, and unbelievers as heretics or worse, blasssspheeemers!
(Obligatory Python clip.)
Anthropogenic Global Warming is about as likely as Anthropogenic Plate Tectonics.
ReplyDeleteLook back a half million years, and that hockey stick looks pretty damned silly.
