I missed that. When did executive branch departments get the power to tax? Wait until the Marine Corps hears about this. I knew we'd end up running this pumpkin patch.
Also reminds me of the scene in "Dave", where he is trying to cut enough from the budget to save a day care center. DOC was running a program to ensure that Americans liked the cars they had already purchased.
Christmas Trees were to get taxed. But Holiday Trees? No tax.
The imposition of the tax had nothing to do with taxation. The feds were going to use our natural disdain of a fifteen cent tax to get us to purge the American lexicon of the words "Christmas Trees".
...so they can control them, then end them. Being offensive to just about everyone, I guess. Inside the beltway.

IIRC, there's an old saying:
