The
House on Thursday rejected a Republican bill that would impose fines
and prison terms on doctors who perform abortions for the sole purpose
of controlling the gender of the child, a practice known as
sex-selective abortion.
Red
China, until quite recently, restricted families to just one child, and
everyone wanted a boy. So, if a girl was born she quite often had
her
head summarily smashed against a brick wall. The difference between
that practice and sex-selective
abortion
is one only of degree. It seems to me then that this is a black
and white issue, with no shades of gray. Obviously though,
these
Republicans, certainly they who voted and not absented themselves,
disagreed.

I'll guess that Ron Paul, and maybe others objected, on stark
Libertarian grounds, that the
Feds have no bidness dictating to states. However, the practice
is
nominally performed under the Roe v. Wade umbrella, so that's a
specious, not to mention heinous, argument.
THE HILL article
reports seven Republicans joined with Democrats in voting no, so I may
have missed one.

Murder. Premeditated at that.

Let's do a thought experiment and accept the premise that homosexuality is genetic and the gene has been identified. Let's assume that parents, who usually want to become grandparents, were able to decide upon whether to abort based on the genetic sexual orientation of their "fetus." Would the pro-choice crowd have a problem with this?

Wouldn't pass Roe v. Wade muster.
ReplyDeleteSeriously ... if you want to ban 1st and 2nd term abortion, for ANY reason, you are going to need an amendment.
If you don't have the majority to support that, it ain't going to happen.
Ron Paul is a horses ass, and so is any contrarian horses ass who keeps this idiot showing up election after election.
